WHAT SHAPE ARE YOUR BRAKES IN?
The Importance of Brakes
Factory Brakes
Factory brake pads are made specifically for your make and model. Aftermarket brake pads may be made of a harder material which will result in premature wear to the rotors. Compared to factory brake pads that will not produce squeaks and squeals that aftermarket pads will have. Factory brake pads have also been tested by the manufacturer to perform best for the safety of your Chevrolet vehicle.
Lower-cost brake pads and rotors may be made of low-quality metal and improperly heat treated. If inferior quality components are used, they will not allow the vehicle's brakes to operate within the design criteria. Stopping distances may even increase. For example, if a vehicle is designed to go from 60mph to 0 mph in 230 feet, when low quality parts are installed that distance can increase to 280 feet or more. This could mean the difference between no accident and a serious accident.
Common Warning Signs of Brake Trouble

WHY IS YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON?
Warning Lights/Diagnostic Service
All new vehicles come with an onboard diagnostics port which hooks up to the vehicle's computer. Whenever the vehicle detects that something may be wrong-whether it's an emissions related problem, cooling system issue, engine problem or something as simple as a loose gas cap, in some cases--the Check Engine Light will appear. If you're interested in keeping your car in good running order and avoiding potentially expensive repairs--it's always a good idea to get the light checked out ASAP.
What Should You Do When the Check Engine Light is Displayed?
The easiest course of action is to bring your car over to Larry H Miller Chevrolet for one of our factory certified technicians to pull the diagnostic code and isolate the cause. If your Check Engine Light ever starts flashing, that means that the problem needs immediate attention and the vehicle should be taken in right away. A flashing light indicates that the problem is serious and if not taken care of immediately may result in damage to the vehicle.
Check Engine Light Best Practices
We've compiled a list of best practices for you if you Check Engine Light ever comes on:
- If the light is flashing, take your vehicle in IMMEDIATELY to be diagnosed and inspected--a flashing light indicates a serious problem with one of your vehicle's components.Â
- If the light is not flashing--check the gas cap. Oftentimes if the gas cap wasn't tightened enough, the check engine light will display.Â
- If tightening the gas cap does not make the light go away--take the vehicle in to have the diagnostic codes looked up.Â
- If you follow those three simple rules and keep up on your vehicle's maintenance, your car will last you a long time.
What Will Happen When I Take My Vehicle in to be Diagnosed?
Our technicians have the tools, training and technology to handle diagnostic issues. The procedure usually includes the following steps:
RETRIEVE DATA - A diagnostic tool is connected to the vehicles' onboard computer to review error codes. This gives us a general idea of the system that may be failing/malfunctioning.
VERIFICATION TESTING - This is a test to determine if the physical test matches the digital test. Some systems may have a leaky seal on a hose, or may be completely broken.
PINPOINT TESTING - Beside general systems test, pointed tests are usually required. This entails inspecting specific components for failure. This gives us a very pointed
RESEARCH TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS - Technical Service Bulletins and hotline information will indicate if the problem has been determined to be a pattern failure, meaning that it is a known issue that occurs with a particular type of vehicle. This does not eliminate the need for testing, as other systems must meet specifications before a service bulletin procedure should be performed.
SUGGEST NECESSARY REPAIRS - Of course we would never perform or mandate a repair without your permission and authorization.
CAR REPAIR - We will perform necessary fixes including replacing parts, cleaning components, or performing updates.
VERIFY REPAIR - Once all necessary actions have been taken, the vehicle must be retested to verify that the repair is complete and has achieved the proper results.
